David graduated from Sheffield Medical School in the UK in 1995 and completing his general
ophthalmology training in South Yorkshire before embarking on a series of UK and overseas sub-specialty fellowships in the field of retinal disease. The last of these fellowships was in Auckland during 2005 and on completion of this post he returned to the UK to take up an appointment at one of the largest NHS teaching hospital trusts in the UK, a post he held for 3 years.

The attraction of Aotearoa however proved too strong, and in the fall of 2009 he returned to New Zealand with his family to take up the appointment of clinical lead of the medical retinal services at Greenlane Hospital co-ordinating delivery of anti-VEGF treatment and is also now the Clinical lead for Waitemata’s Ophthalmology services and the national Diabetic Eye Screening Program.

David’s main interests are the management of macular and retinal pathologies, particularly macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular disorders and cataract surgery. He maintains an active research portfolio, currently taking the clinical lead on a number of projects that range from investigating the effectiveness of new drug treatments for macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy to novel techniques to both measure and model retinal blood flow.

David consults privately at Milford Eye Clinic’s central hub at 181 Shakespeare Road on Mondays and Tuesdays, and the Orewa branch office on Fridays.
